Symptoms of a Prolapsed Uterus
Women with uterine prolapse can experience a range of symptoms,
depending on the severity of the prolapse. Women with mild prolapse
may not have any symptoms and may only learn that they have uterine
prolapse as a chance finding during a pelvic exam. However, women
with more severe prolapse can experience a range of symptoms that
impact may aspects of their lives.
The most characteristic symptom of uterine prolapse is a feeling
of pelvic heaviness or fullness and a feeling that something is falling out.
Other symptoms include:
- Vaginal pain
- Vaginal heaviness
- Pain during sexual intercourse
- Anal pain or pressure
- Low back pain
- Incontinence or difficulty urinating
- Bladder infections
- Excessive vaginal discharge
The symptoms usually get worse with activity and get better with bed rest.
