Diagnosing a Prolapsed Uterus
Uterine prolapsed is diagnosed through a detailed medical history
and pelvic exam. The doctor will take measurements of the position of
the uterus during the exam to assess the severity of the prolapse.
Uterine prolapse is typically graded on a 4-point scale with 0 being no prolapse
(uterus is well supported) and 4 being the most severe prolapse (uterus protrudes
from the vagina). Uterine prolapse classified as Stage II or greater is usually
associated with symptoms that affect quality of life.
Although many women who experience symptoms from uterine prolapse fail to seek
treatment out of fear or embarrassment, help is available.
