Paula's Story - Painful Intercourse and
a Tipped Uterus
Paula is 32 years old, married, and has one child. She experienced lower
back pain and pain during intercourse and was diagnosed with collision
dyspareunia resulting from a tipped or retroverted uterus.
Paula just had her first child and wasn't able to get over the lower back
pain she was experiencing. She also had pain during intercourse, and that got
increasingly worse. "It had gotten to the point where I couldn't handle sex,
because the pain was very deep and sharp," Paula said.
It was difficult for Paula to find a doctor who could help her. Finally, after
eight months, Paula met a doctor who understood her problem. After a thorough
examination, the doctor said he could reposition her uterus with the UPLIFT procedure.
She was "extremely excited", because the doctor zeroed in on the problem.
"The UPLIFT procedure didn't take long, and I left the hospital the same day,"
Paula said. "I have three tiny scars, one at my belly button and two others closer
to my pubic bone," she said. Her insurance company paid for the procedure.
The doctor advised Paula that it would take six weeks for recovery, but she
didn't believe him since she was in good physical condition and worked out all
the time. "I thought recovery would take about two weeks. It took the full six
weeks," Paula said. "The good news is sex has been a lot better after the surgery," she said.
"My pain is 85% improved," Paula told her doctor at a follow-up appointment.
"The UPLIFT procedure has really helped me put my life back together again. It has
also helped put our marriage back on track," she said.
Paula recommends anyone experiencing this problem to see their doctor. If the
doctor suggests the UPLIFT procedure, she would not hesitate. "I couldn't imagine
having to live with this pain," she said.
Paula was treated at the C. Paul Perry Pelvic Pain Center, Birmingham, AL.
