Marian's Story - Endometriosis and Collision Dyspareunia

Marian is a 24 year old single woman who experienced painful periods and pain during intercourse. She was diagnosed with endometriosis and collision dyspareunia.

Marian's constant pelvic pain motivated her to find a doctor. "I've had severe pain since I got my first period and pain with sex as well," Marian said. "My pain during intercourse felt like I was being stabbed with a hot poker, and the pain spread out from there," she said.

To diagnose her problem, Marian's doctor first had a long discussion with her and then conducted a pelvic exam. During the exam, the doctor instructed her to let him know when it hurt. After the doctor pressed in a certain way, Marian experienced the same kind of pain she felt during sex. He immediately knew what the problem was. "The doctor could tell my uterus was tilted back," Marian said.

Marian was relieved that her doctor found the cause of her pain, because she had been through many exams with different doctors without finding a solution.

"I recommend that women keep trying to find a doctor that will help them," Marian said.

"The UPLIFT procedure was very simple since it was done laparoscopically," Marian explained. " The doctor put four small holes in my stomach and I don't have a lot of scarring. The procedure itself was short. It probably took about 15-20 minutes. I was completely under anesthesia, so I didn't feel a thing." she said.

"Thank goodness my insurance paid for it," Marian said. "If your doctor recommends the UPLIFT procedure, I would do it," she said.

Paula was treated at the C. Paul Perry Pelvic Pain Center, Birmingham, AL.
